95 Punkte FALSTAFF, Peter Moser: "Sehr dunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung. Rose petal, spice, blood orange and mint add brightness and perfume on the long, finely-knit finish." That will make the 2018 easy to drink relatively early, although my preference would be to leave it in the cellar for the better part of the next decade. All the elements are so impeccably balanced. More than anything else, the 2018 impresses for its exceptional balance. Silky, polished tannins wrap around a core of inky dark red/purplish berry fruit. 97 Punkte VINOUS, Antonio Galloni: "Suave and sophisticated, the 2018 Pichon Baron is a real head-turner. And then there's a serious network of iron girders supporting it all, along with sweet tobacco, floral and worn cedar accents.

As charming and vibrant as the cassis, cherry preserve and blackberry paste flavors are, they have a latent saturated feel. 97 Punkte WINESPECTATOR, James Molesworth: "A very polished and pure expression of Pauillac, but don't go to sleep on it. Together they form a harmonious ensemble, richly structured, concentrated from the many old vines in the blend, and very ageworthy. In this release, the tannins are as impressive and dense as the black fruits. 100 Punkte WINE ENTHUSIAST, Roger Voss: "This great estate in southern Pauillac, facing the Latour vineyard, is at the top of its game.

The medium to full-bodied palate delivers impactful black fruit preserves and exotic spice layers, framed by plush tannins and a lively backbone, finishing long and spicy."
#2018 pichon baron plus#
Deep garnet-purple colored, the nose bursts from the glass with flamboyant scents of stewed black plums, crème de cassis and Black Forest cake, plus suggestions of Indian spices, unsmoked cigars, pencil shavings and espresso. Production of the grand vin represents 50% of the harvest this year. Yields on the old vines here just above 30hl/ha.- 96+ Punkte Robert Parkers WINE ADVOCATE, Lisa Perrotti-Brown: "The 2018 Pichon-Longueville Baron is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot, aged for 18 months in barriques, 80% new and 20% one year old. 70% new oak for 18 months, 48% of overall production. Unmistakably Pauillac, and hugely Cabernet dominant, with savoury spice notes of grilled cumin and the same muscular, saline-backed tannins that you find in Les Griffons, just here with more definition and depth. A muscular Pichon Baron, layered with liquorice and chocolate shavings. Intense, concentrated, rippling with power while still delivering finesse. The medium-bodied palate is built like a brick house, featuring firm, ripe, grainy tannins and bold freshness to support the taut, muscular black fruits, finishing long and spicy. Opaque purple-black in color, it comes bounding out of the glass with exuberant notions of blackberry pie, preserved plums and crème de cassis, plus suggestions of Chinese five spice, chocolate mint, graphite and cedar chest with a touch of violets. The production of the grand vin represents 48% of the harvest this year. The 2020 Pichon-Longueville Baron is a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Merlot aging for an estimated 18 months in French oak barrels, 70% new. This is hands down one of the most impressive wines of 2020. More than anything, though, the Pichon-Baron possesses remarkable energy and vibrancy that builds to an intense, beautifully focused finish. An exotic mélange of red cherry, mint, rose petal and blood orange comes alive in the glass. The 2020 Pichon Baron is utterly breathtaking, and also one of the very best young vintages I have tasted here. It's unquestionably in the same ballpark as the 2015, 2016, and 2018, and given its sweet tannins and beautifully integrated acidity, it should have some up-front appeal as well, yet still age at a glacier pace. It's a dense, rich, powerful 2020 offering loads of pure cassis and almost blue fruits as well as full-bodied richness, a round, lush, incredibly sexy texture, sweet tannins, and ample classic Pauillac lead pencil, tobacco, and violet aromas and flavors.

The inky hued 2020 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron checks in as a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Merlot that spent 18 months in 70% new barrels. It’s full-bodied, linear and long with a compact palate. This young Bordeaux is totally seamless with fine, velvet-like tannins that are integrated and refined.
